2.Sit + Store – Construction + Material – Can it handle the pressure?

Us humans have been making furniture since way back when – I’m not going to go into the history of construction but I want to touch on the craftsmanship involved.  Every piece of furniture we see around our from our homes to the office inside and out has been carefully planned and executed either using traditional methods or via machine and produced for the mass (IKEA again!).

When a designer is considering a piece of furniture they must think foremost of how the piece will be constructed, will it be strong enough for its purpose, is the material durable, able to stand the test of time?

This clever designed Baulthaup kitchen station is beautifully constructed and the detail is evident in this beautiful stand-alone Japanese design piece.

This MYTO chair is entirely made from plastic, durable and hardwearing making it perfect for use both indoors and out.  Relatively inexpensive compared to other materials, plastic also has another benefit of being constructed in any colour desired.

How good does this chair look when it’s stacked too?

Next up I will look at the use of colour a bit more.

Thanks for reading

Glenn
